Arriving in vietnam as a foreinger by plane, your first decision is which way to choose to the city of Hanoi.
Usually your hotel or hostel is located in the old quarter.
When you’re a typical tourist, you don’t need to read this article. Your travel agency is organising your transfer for sure 😉
That’s why i write this experience for backpackers – those kind of people who want to explore the native land.
After passing the immigration buero and getting your luggage, move out of the terminal and go fast(!) through the taxi drivers and other guys who want to arrange the way (typical tourist napping).
When you arrive at terminal 2, go outside the airport and turn right. About 200 m you will find the free transfer Bus station to terminal 1
When you arrive at terminal 1, go outside the airport.
After that, cross the taxi and minibus lane. Cross again one lane for the typical tourist transfer busses.
Pay attention, not to choose these busses!
This is not the Hanoi City Bus. The drivers are very tricky and have been put on the same sticker (no. 17) on the window. The price is minimum 40.000 Dong (more than 4x of the native bus) and you must leave it in the south of Hanoi in the middle of taxis (that’s the „jointventure“) and so you have to pay again to come to your accommondation.
So cross the street again and you’ll be on a big parking area.
There you will find the Hanoi City Bus No. 17 to Long Bien.
It costs 9.000 Dong and you can leave it directly at the old quarter, just a view foodsteps away from your hotel or hostel.
The way back is nearly the same. When you travel from Hanoi old quarter to the airport, go to the bus station „Long Bien“ and search for bus No. 17 to Noi Bai.
It’s signed very good, so you can easily find it.
